There was an international border crossing near the palace in Chałupki, which belonged to the wealthy Rothschild Jewish bankers before World War II. A border bridge was built in 1899 and named the Jubilee Bridge of Emperor Franz Joseph in its honour. Previously, there was a wooden bridge at this location funded by Prince John of Weimar, which was destroyed.
In 1945, the bridge was blown up by German troops, but after the war it was rebuilt and served as the border between Poland and Czechoslovakia until the abolition of border controls in 2007 under the Schengen Agreement.
The bridge was also used as a border between Poland and Czechoslovakia.
